Akemi Chudyk, B. Sc. OT

Akemi currently works part-time for Fraser Health as an occupational therapist for the Health Services for Community Living (HSCL) program. In this role, she works primarily with adults with developmental delay to provide rehabilitative consultation services. She has previously worked for a clinic-based paediatric clinic , short-term/long-term transitional rehabilitation placement and community-based rehabilitation services.

Akemi has almost 10 years experience in providing collaborative community-based services for home accessibility and ongoing therapy services. She continually seeks advanced training in assessment and interventions for children, youth and adults. Akemi is certified in Assessment for Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) rater, Handwriting Without Tears (Pre-K to Grade 5) and is trained for Level 1 and 2 Motivational Interviewing through The Monarch SystemTM . Her ongoing education includes paediatric-focused education including the following:

  • Resolving Picky Eating (April 2021)
  • Sensory processing and Sensory-based intervention for children (May 2020)
  • Pediatric feeding and swallowing: Managing complex issues (April 2020)

Her long-time passion prior to being a full-time mom of two kids is volunteering. She has volunteered for the Learning Disabilities Association of British Columbia – Fraser South, Connect Communities – Langley and the Canadian Red Cross. She has been a long-time volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross since 2012 starting from the SmartStart Program where she taught disaster preparedness and first aid and at the same time volunteered at the Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) at the Surrey Depot. She is currently on hiatus as a Personal Disaster Responder and Emergency Responder at the Emergency Management (formerly known as Disaster Management). Now, on her spare time, she likes to bake, do meal prep with her toddler and write in her journal.
